Pink Vanity – Monthly DIY Challenge

July 8, 2015

Pink vanity makeover using Annie Sloan's Henrietta chalk paint and a whitewashed finish.

Happy first Wednesday of the month!  If you’re new here, that means it’s Monthly DIY Challenge day.  This month’s challenge item is paint.  And while I’ll admit finding a project to use paint on wasn’t much of a challenge for us, finding time to get our project finished over the holiday weekend was!

My husband was off work the entire weekend (a rarity) and we spent 3 days relaxing at the pool and grilling out with family and friends.  I hope you were able to relax and do something fun too!

But let’s get back to the project.  We found this vanity at a local thrift shop.  The mirror was not attached and the previous owner had attempted to glue the mirror hardware together.

Fortunately the glue was old and brittle and I was able to clean it out with a small screwdriver.  After drilling out the holes just a bit for the hardware to fit better, everything went back together easily.

I painted the vanity with Annie Sloan’s Henrietta.  It’s a soft pink color, but I wanted the color to be even softer so I went over it with a wash of Old White.

You can see the whitewash a little better in this picture.

I envisioned this vanity being used by a little girl, and I decided to decoupage the drawer with whimsical fairy postcards.  The old handle was replaced with this pretty knob from Hobby Lobby.

So cute, Amy! I like the whitewashing over the pink. I’m doing a child’s rocker in pink and am thinking the whitewashing over it could be a good idea!

Thanks Bre! It was pretty with just the pink paint on it but I definitely thought the whitewashing added a little something to it.
