Nautical Decor – Stenciled Pillows

July 22, 2015

DIY stenciled pillows.  Make your own unique throw pillows with fabric paint and a stencil. {Canary Street Crafts}

You might remember a couple months ago we painted these stenciled tables using the French Script stencil from Cutting Edge Stencils.  They recently asked if we’d be interested in trying their Paint-A-Pillow product line for free.

Since I’m still working on pieces of nautical decor for Max’s bedroom makeover (remember the ship dresser ?) I chose the Anchors Away pillow kit so I could make pillows for his bed.  You can choose either a white or natural pillow cover.  I went with natural, and chose Navy Blue and Ruby Red paint colors.

The kit comes with a stenciling frame that I loved.  A piece of cardboard slides into the pillow to keep the paint from leaking through to the other side.  The frame holds your pillow fabric tight and the stencil securely in place so nothing shifts around while you’re painting.

I decided to do a stripe on the back of the pillows and used painters tape to make the lines.

I decided to paint one anchor red and the rest navy, and paint the stripes on the back red as well.

Once the paint is dry it needs to be heat set with an iron, then they’re ready to use.  What do you think?  Pretty cute, huh?

If you want to check out some of the other stencil options, you can find them on the Paint-A-Pillow website.

    These turned out great, I saw the pillow stencil kits on the Cuttting Edge site and wondered about them. Maybe I’ll give them a try 🙂

    WOW, Amy, I love this! It looks so professional. What a fun idea, paint a pillow 🙂 The stripe was a nice touch. What all comes in the kit?

      Thanks, Sam! The kits comes with lots of stuff! A stencil and stenciling frame (the frame holds the pillow cover while you’re stenciling), pillow cover, pillow insert, stencil brush and roller, fabric paint, paint tray and stir stick, and even a scrap piece of fabric so you can do a quick practice stencil. You have the option to add additional pillows and paint colors to your kit (which is what I did) and they also have fun extras you can add like rhinestones and tassels.

    Love your pillows, Amy — especially that you made them your own with the addition of red. So cute!
