I’m so excited to share Sam’s vintage airplane bedroom makeover with you today! Sam is four years old, and I wanted something that was appropriate for his age but not childish, so he would be able to grow with it. He chose the airplane theme and we went from there.

I decided to do a gray-blue on the walls. I used Behr paint and did a custom color match, so unfortunately there isn’t a paint color name for me to share with you. Two coats on the builder white walls, no primer, and I was done.
The bedsheets and comforter are from Pottery Barn outlet. I purchased this navy bedskirt* from Amazon for $19.99.
The nightstand is from Home Goods. It’s a metal nightstand and I love the numbers on the drawers and that it kind of reminds me of a locker.
The pictures above Sam’s bed are actually posters I purchased at the National Air Force Museum in Dayton. I bought inexpensive frames at Hobby Lobby to hang them.
When I saw this red airplane at Home Goods I knew I had to have it! Isn’t it cool? It’s Sam’s favorite thing in his room.
The white and blue laundry basket to the right of the chest, as well as the baskets on the top shelf of the chest, and the cute little vintage suitcase are all from Home Goods. The growth chart is from Land Of Nod, and the picture is from Marshall’s.
The vintage airplanes on his dresser are from Hobby Lobby, and the curtains are from Target. (Forgive my poor photography skills, and this photo below that’s even darker than the others. The sun blasts in those windows in the morning and it was impossible to get a decent picture while the sun was on that side of the house).
I made the pendant myself out of a wire container I found at Hobby Lobby. You can see how I made it here.
So that’s it! I still may hang something on the wall above his bed/nightstand area, but I’m not sure what. Any suggestions? I’m currently working on Max’s bedroom (it’s a nautical/sailboat theme), and I’m looking forward to sharing it with all of you as well when I’m finished!

Amy-
We love your sons vintage inspired room…especially the light fixture and airplane. He is one lucky young man 🙂
Thanks girls!!
This is an awesome bedroom for a little man. I love how it combines all the elements of a ‘boys’ bedroom, yet is till has the softness for a little one. Love the airplane hanging from the ceiling!!
Thanks for sharing at Marvelous Monday on Smart Party Planning 😉
Thanks Catherine! I was so happy when I found that airplane at Home Goods! There was only 1 and I swear the shopping gods put it on the shelf just for me 🙂
Amy I LOVE his room! It looks so good! I really like how well it all flows. My favorite thing is probably the nightstand… I’m going to have to search Home Goods and see if I can find one for my boys! And are your curtains black out? I love those too!
Thanks Sydney! If you can’t find the nightstand I know you could make one similar with just a little paint! And yes, the curtains are blackout. Blackout curtains are a MUST with little ones!
What a fun room! I love the industrial light fixture and hanging metal airplane! Your son is a lucky little boy to have such a neat room.
Thanks so much for linking up to Your Designs This Time! Have a great week!
Cheers!

Thanks so much Katie! We love the YDTT linkup!
Wow! So amazing! And beautiful! Really liked the red airplaine and the colors of the room.
Also, just wanted to let you know I nominated you for a Liebster Award.
Have a great week!
Stephanie!! Thank you so much! Congrats on your Liebster, can’t wait to read your post!! And thanks for your sweet comments about Sam’s room 🙂
I think you did a wonderful job of making this room fun but not too young. I LOVE the color you chose for the walls–I’m trying to find the perfect grey/blue paint color for my basement and this color is my fav so far!
Thanks Carrie!! I wish I could give you the exact paint color! I painted the room a few months ago, prior to having a blog, and remembering things like paint color wasn’t even on my radar at that time. I’m almost positive it was a Martha Stewart color that I color matched into a Behr paint at Home Depot. Thanks for stopping by!
Looks great – I love the wall color, too!
Thanks so much Gina!!
My boys would love a room like this. Very nice work! Hope to see you Friday for our Anything Goes linky.
Thanks Mindie! We’ll be sure to stop by 🙂
I LOVE this bedroom! So many perfect touches!
Thank you Amber!! You’re so sweet to stop by and check it out 🙂
I love his room, Amy!!! It’s the perfect theme that he won’t outgrow for a few years! Love the bedding, the posters you framed, but I have to say that hanging airplane is my favorite too!!, and that pendant light looks perfect in here! You did a fabulous job, friend!! :))
See? This is why you’re my favorite. You always say the nicest things! Thank you, friend 🙂
I love this!! I’m working on my 3 year old’a room right now! Love the simplicity!
Thank you so much, Marie!
Love all the accessories you put in this room! I bet your son loves it! I had a vintage airplane room for my son in our last home and his new room is all transportation lol. Such a cute theme and can totally go crazy with accessorizing it. So hard to not spend the money when you find that perfect vintage airplane on the shelves at a store.

Deb, I agree!! Once we decided on an airplane theme we kept finding sooo many cute things we could buy! I definitely had to limit myself. And a transportation room sounds super cute! My boys love ALL modes of transportation!
Stopping by from the On Display Link Up! Such a fun theme for a four year old boy’s room, not too childish but still age appropriate! I love your light fixture. I’m beginning to pull my soon to arrive son’s nursery together and trying to find the right decor that he can grow into. Great room!
Griffin
Thank you, and congrats on the new baby! Decorating a nursery is so much fun! If you share the finished room on your blog we’ll definitely stop over and check it out!
I love EVERYTHING about that room! Not sure which is my favorite, the red hanging airplane or those really cool drawers next to the bed. And your right, it is perfect for his age but he can also grow with it. The color scheme is actually really similar to one I chose for my son with the grey walls, navy and orange/red accents. He is so lucky!
Thanks Rachel! I love grey and navy together. Red and orange accents sound really cool! Thanks so much for stopping by!!
My boys would absolutely love this room!
Thanks for sharing it at the Teach Me Tuesday Linky Party! Hope you can join us again tonight starting @ 9pm est:)
Great room….and so organized. You scored at Homegoods with the airplane.
This is such a nice room for a little boy to have. The ceiling light is amazing. I also have a vintage inspired transportation theme for my boys, with airplanes hanging from the ceiling. It is such a fun and creative way to make a timeless look to a room. Thank for linking up at Friday Favorites!
