Today we’re participating in the Tour Through Blogland series, where we’ll be giving you a behind the scenes look at our homes and our work process.
We were invited to participate in the tour by our lovely friend Kendra from Joy In Our Home. Kendra’s blog is full of fun DIY projects, recipes and home decor ideas, including this Board And Batten Headboard. Isn’t it gorgeous? If you haven’t been over to Kendra’s blog, please stop over and say hi! She’s one of our very favorite people in the whole blogiverse, and I promise you’ll love her!
We’ll start off by giving you a little behind the scenes look at our houses.
Amy
Hi everyone!! Welcome in!
Remember our magnolia leaf wreath? There it is on my front door!
Here’s a peek into our kitchen. It’s without a doubt the most used room in our house.
It’s also where we hung our DIY chalkboard calendar.
The kitchen is fully open to the family room, which I love. It makes the first floor feel like a large open space.
We recently added a patio, but haven’t used it much because it doesn’t have any furniture yet.
I’ve mentioned it before, but I tend to lean towards neutral colors and natural fabrics. I have a lot of undecorated space and I’ll be sharing a lot of projects as I continue to finish our house. I don’t like clutter or a lot of things on countertops, and I find myself struggling to find that good balance between cluttered and empty. I’m not a natural at interior decorating, but I’m slowly starting to figure out what I like and what works for our house.
And now for Vicki’s tour!
Vicki
Welcome friends, please come in!
We built our house three years ago. Although we are in a subdivision, we are on a private drive off of a cul de sac. There are five houses on this private drive and we are the last house with woods on three sides. I have lots of decorating ideas in mind, and having this blog is helping me to get to them.
Here is a look standing at the back door looking to the front door. As you can see it is a very open floor plan. No dining or formal living room. I’ve had those and found they were wasted spaces that no one used.
I call this the living room only because we have a finished basement and that space became the family room.
I love the dining area. See the back wall with the three windows? The plan is to blow out that wall and add another sliding glass door which will open onto another deck we will add to that side of the house. Most of our back yard is on that side of the house, so it will be really nice to use that outside space.
We love this deck, its like an extra living space. The view and the privacy, its like being in Gatlinburg!
Well, there you have it a tour of most of the first floor. Thanks for stopping in and I can’t wait to share more with you later.
What are we working on?
Right now we’re both working on decorating our homes. We both have a ton of projects on our to-do lists, and we can’t wait to share them with you! In addition to that, we’re throwing around some ideas for fall and Halloween projects, as well as cooking up a recipe or two.
How does our work differ from others of its genre?
Because there’s two of us, we have the opportunity to look at projects from two different perspectives. We can bounce ideas off of each other and split the workload. And whenever one of us is stuck on a project, the other can usually come in with a fresh idea to get things back on track.
Why do we write/create what we do?
Because it’s what we enjoy doing. With or without a blog, this is what we do in our free time. Although having a blog has definitely helped us to focus on those projects and get them done in a more timely manner.
How does your writing/creating process work?
We have a notebook with tons of ideas for future projects. We’ll nail down a couple we want to complete for that week and get to work. Right now it’s a bit of a struggle to find time to get projects completed on time, but we do our best and don’t stress if it takes longer than anticipated. Once we have a project completed, we’ll take some final photographs, then get everything into the computer and on the blog within a day or two. I wish we had several completed posts lined up and ready to go but for now we tend to fly by the seat of our pants and post as we go.
Thank you so much for stopping over and hanging out with us! We’d love to introduce you to two more bloggers who will be continuing the tour on their own blogs next Monday, Sept 1st. Emily and Emma are both so sweet and incredibly talented. We hope you’ll visit their blogs and check out their tours next week!

You both have gorgeous homes, with great outdoor spaces! I am envious that you both get to work together so much. I can only imagine how nice it is to have someone there with design, planning, and writing. I have my husband who helps with the projects. but the blog stuff is up to me.

Thanks Emily!! I am definitely lucky to be able to work with my mom! She’s a much more skilled crafter than I am, so if it weren’t for her I wouldn’t be able to do half the things we do! I can’t wait to see your tour next week!!
