Recently, I made spiderweb cupcake toppers for a Halloween party, and I wanted to share the spiderweb template I used so you can easily make them too!
We made the spiderwebs using orange Wilton’s candy melts. After melting the candy, we used a decorating bag and tip to pipe the spiderwebs onto wax paper. I created a free printable spiderweb template that you can put under the wax paper and trace.
Once the spiderwebs are dry, they’ll pop right off the wax paper. Use care as you handle them, as they tend to be a bit fragile. We finished them off with plastic spiders.
If you’d like to make your own spiderweb cupcake toppers, you can print our spiderweb template for free. I left the document unlocked for you so you can change the size of the spiderwebs if needed.

Thanks for the template. Pinned 🙂
You’re welcome, Janet! Thanks for pinning, hope you have a great weekend!
Amy…I’ve always wondered how this was done 🙂 Thanks for the great tutorial – my mind is buzzing with ideas 🙁
The spiderwebs take a bit of a steady hand, but you could trace pretty much anything with the candy melts and make your own custom cupcake toppers. I’d love to see some of the ideas you come up with!
These are super cool, Amy!! Perfect for Halloween! Have a lovely weekend, friend!
Thanks Kendra!!
Nice job! I think that is vanilla bean frosting and it makes me want to sink my teeth in one now! haha
Yes!! Those little flecks of vanilla bean make everything better!
These cupcakes are so festive! I love how you placed the web resting on the top of the frosting with the spider.
Thanks, Jamie! My initial thought was to stick one end in the icing at an angle, but I liked it better laying on top too. Plus the webs don’t do well under pressure, so pushing them into thick icing is just asking for them to break 🙂
Adorable!! Such a creative idea, I love it! And, I love that they’re edible. The best kind of topper. 😉 Pinning!
I totally agree, edible toppers are best! Total aside..we also used the candy melts to make pretzel witch fingers (you can see them in the last picture). There were 5 kids in my house when we made everything and I so wish I would’ve taken a picture of their faces when we asked if they wanted to eat one of those fingers! haha! My adorable 3 yr old neighbor (who has never ever turned down a snack) said “I am NOT eating a fingernail!!” 🙂
Haha!! That’s so funny! Those fingers look totally perfect too. They went home and probably said, “mom, they wanted us to eat FINGERS!!” 😉
What a fun idea! My kids would absolutely love these. Thanks for sharing at On Display Thursday!
Thanks Leia!!
I can’t believe those are candy and not plastic! So cute! These look so delicious, the fact that there are spiders on top of these cupcakes does not deter me from wanting to gobble them down. 😉
Haha! Those spiders did nothing to help my diet either 🙂
Amy these are so cute!! And I love that you did orange vs. black. It really makes the cupcakes pop! Thank you for the free printable too!
Thanks Sydney!!
These are adorably creepy. (I really don’t like spiders.) I’ve always wondered how people make those intricate cupcake designs, but you made it look easy! I might just need to try this technique for snowflakes for my daughter’s Frozen party.
