Thank you to Cost Plus World Market for sponsoring this post.
I really haven’t shown you guys too many photos of my home. Mostly because I tend to feel inadequate compared to some of the stunning rooms other bloggers share. Sometimes I feel like I have a decorating black thumb. I’m trying to get over that though, and start sharing more of my home and decor projects. I thought the best place to dip my toe in the water would be to share the progress on our patio.
We’ve been working on this project in stages as funds allow. When we built our house in 2010 the backyard was a blank slate. We saved for a few years, drew up plans for the patio, and hired someone to build it. Next came landscaping, then the big furniture pieces, and finally this year I’m decorating and adding all the finishing touches. Here are a few photos so you can see where we’re at and what still needs to be done.
I think my absolute favorite piece on the whole patio is this potting bench. I don’t use it as a potting bench though. It’s the perfect spot for a drink or snack station at parties. It’s just really versatile and fits the space perfectly. I love the drop leaf extension, and that I can use the entire surface as a table top or remove the lid and use the bucket as a cooler.
The outdoor rug can be hosed off, which is awesome. I tend to struggle with incorporating color and I thought the rug was a fun way to add a punch of color. It was also extremely inexpensive compared to the other outdoor rugs I looked at.
Small accent tables that can be moved around for parties are a must-have. Both accent tables can be found here and here.
I purchased the potting bench, outdoor rug, and both accent tables at Cost Plus World Market. They have so many gorgeous options for outdoor decor. Now through 5/29, associates at your local Cost Plus World Market store will be handing out 20% off coupons, plus 10% off food, wine, and beer. The discount is good at all locations, but it’s only valid for in-store purchases. You can find your nearest Cost Plus World Market store here.

Here’s what we still have on the to-do list:
- Coffee Table
- Planters/flowers
- Landscaping maintenance
- Ceiling fan (one of the blades broke off the current one during a storm)
- Two chairs (to go next to the umbrella table)
- Throw pillows
- Possibly a fire pit or propane fire table. Still thinking this one out.
We’re having a 4th of July party and my goal is to have it all finished by then. I’ll be sure to share a follow-up post when it’s completed.
Are you sprucing up your outdoor space? Tackling any other home improvements? I’d love to hear what you’re working on!

Beautiful…I am doing the same…however I do not have a covered porch. We are thinking about adding on to our pool area and putting on a corner fire place but I am not very good at decorating! I wish I had your talent!

LOVE the idea. Blue porch ceilings are very southern and I think it’s sounds pretty and relaxing.
