This is a project I shared a couple years ago, and I wanted to revive it for our May Monthly DIY Challenge. Our challenge item this month is flower pots/planters.
We found terra-cotta pots at our local Dollar Tree and used Annie Sloan chalk paint in “Old White” to dry brush a layer of paint on.
I printed this graphic from The Graphics Fairy and sized it down to 70% on our computer before printing. I used Mod Podge to transfer the graphic following the instructions in this tutorial.
After transferring the graphic to the pot, I intentionally scrubbed some of it off to make it look worn.
I have a couple of these on a shelf in my bathroom and we’ve even sold a few in our booth.
I’ve been busy behind the scenes painting furniture, I just haven’t had time to share them on the blog. I have three finished pieces I just need to photograph so I can share them with you guys! I’ll try to get one finished up and on the blog next week.
In the meantime, check out the flower pot/planter projects from the other MDIYC bloggers below.
Hope you’re having a great week!

Question: Clay post are very porous. When you put a live plant in the pot with soil and water it, how do you prevent the moisture that invariably soaks through the clay from ruining the graphics? Doesn’t everything just peel off creating a nasty mess?

That’s a really good point I should have mentioned. I don’t use mine for live plants. I have a fake plant in one and the others I’ve used to hold pens etc in my office. I think a couple coats of mod podge over top of the graphic would seal it well if using a live plant but I haven’t actually tried it myself.

Amy, maybe the pots can be sealed on the inside prior to creating if someone would like to use live plants. Never worked on clay pots but just a thought. Can’t wait to see what you’ve been up to! I have some new things coming too that I will be posting shortly as well. Swing by when you get the chance!
