It’s time for another Monthly DIY Challenge! This month our challenge item is Modern Master’s Metal Effects Patina Paint.

Our Modern Masters Metal Effects kit came with everything needed to complete our project, including the brushes. They have three finishes, blue patina, green patina, or rust, and we chose to work with blue patina.
We decided to transform a decorative pot we found at the thrift store. Here’s what it looked like before.
There was an instruction booklet in the box, but the directions are pretty simple: two coats of primer, two coats of bronze paint, then spritz with the patina aging solution while the paint is still wet. Here’s what the pot looked like after primer and paint.
Once you spray the patina aging solution, the paint begins to turn dark blue within a few minutes, but you have to let it dry to get the full effect. We let it dry overnight and when we came back the next morning it looked like this.
Pretty cool, huh? The best part is that we didn’t even use half of the paint, primer, and patina solution, so we can still do another project or two.

Could this paint be used on a metal patio set?
Canary Street Crafts (Amy) says
Absolutely. I’m not 100% sure what modern masters suggests for outdoor furniture and whether or not you should seal it, but I believe they have a top coat specifically made for their metal effects finishes if that’s something you would like.
