We are so excited to be teaming up with 10 of our fabulous blogging friends for the Pick Your Pumpkin Challenge! For this challenge, each blogger used a faux pumpkin from Michael’s to create a fun DIY craft. Our pumpkin project was inspired by fall subway art, and we decided to use that same concept to create a Fall Subway Art Pumpkin!
I started with a faux pumpkin, foam letter stickers in different sizes, and Krylon ColorMaster paint & primer satin spray paint in “Almond”, all purchased from Michael’s.
I began by placing the letters on the pumpkin, but only peeling back a tiny bit of the sticker backing so I could easily move them around if needed. Once I had all the letters placed where I wanted them, I peeled off the rest of the backing and stuck them onto the pumpkin. I found that that smaller letters stuck really well on their own, but some of the bigger letters needed just a bit of glue to help them stay put.
At this point my husband walked in the kitchen, took one look at my colorful pumpkin, raised an eyebrow and walked away! 🙂 So little faith! He should have known we weren’t done yet!
Next, I covered everything with several coats of spray paint. You’ll want to paint it from different angles to make sure you get around all the edges of the letters.
I didn’t paint the stem because I wasn’t sure what I was going to do with it, but I ended up covering it with a bow I made using this cute fall chevron ribbon (also from Michael’s) and just attached it with a little glue.
